Thought I'd take advantage of a friend's local knowledge. We cruised through a piece of the park and looked at some of the old Elkmont homes. It was neat to learn from Curt that the roads we were driving had been the original old logging railway line. That became the way to get out there for the early rich folks to build their vacation homes. Eventually the tracks went away in favor of pavement and a road. The homes were condemed to make way for the park but any folks living there were allowed to live out their lives in their homes. The last resident left not too long ago. The park system is planning to restore a few of the homes and may make some of them rentals.
